All costs are based in NZ$ or € pricing and where applicable converted to other currencies using Bank of New Zealand or Transferwise current exchange rates.
You can pay to a New Zealand account or to an account in the EU.
All pricing includes all New Zealand GST (goods and services tax).
● A minimum deposit of NZ$250 or €150 per person or 10% of total tour cost (whichever is higher) is payable prior to a reservation being made.
● The balance payment is due no later than 30 days prior to departure
● If making a reservation within 30 days of a tour, full payment is required upon receiving confirmation of all your arrangements
* Additional deposit amounts may be required for specific items such as domestic airfares or other specialist activities. We will advise you of this.
** Balance payments for tours may in some cases be due sooner than 30 days prior ,e.g. early bird booking special offers, flight arrangements or other specialist items.
Once full payment for your tour has been received by J.Abele, trading as Te RāTours, the price in NZ$ or € is guaranteed not to change.
Cancellations received prior to 45 days before travel* - we refund the deposit.
● Cancellation 44 - 14 days prior to your itinerary commencement date* – loss of 50% of total cost.
● Cancellation anytime within 13 days of your itinerary commencement date – loss of 100% of the itinerary cost
Please be aware that bookings for airfares are 100% non-refundable. Additional cancellation fees may be incurred for, but not necessarily limited to, reservations for other activities and accommodation. Juergen Abele t/a trading as Te Rā Tours reserves the right to claim the costs from you.
Price Guarantee and Amendments
We reserve the right to amend pricing at any time. Note if you have a confirmed itinerary we guarantee the pricing in NZ$ or €. For other currencies this is subject to change as currencies fluctuate. In the event of an amendment to an itinerary that is beyond our control some services and products may be replaced. We and our partners will always endeavour to make sure these are of the same quality and value.
Any information provided is done so with the understanding that the information may have been provided by a third party and should therefore only be used as a guideline. We may use third party suppliers or providers of some services and products and as such act as agents for those. Any claim or liability resulting from those services or products is the responsibility of the supplier or provider.
Your rights and Statutory Protections under New Zealand Law
These terms and conditions should be read subject to and in conjunction with the provisions of the Consumer Guarantees Act and the Fair Trading Act and do not affect the customers rights as expressed in these acts.
Juergen Abele, trading as Te Rā Tours; its employees, independent contractors, suppliers and any person acting on behalf of us accept no responsibility for damage or loss to property or person.
Third party terms and conditions
It is impractical to list each and every one of our individual hotel, activity or other suppliers terms and conditions and on request we will supply their individual terms and conditions to you.
All tours require a minimum number of bookings before they will operate and on very rare occasions Juergen Abele, trading as Te Rā Tours may cancel a tour due to low passenger numbers. If there is a major change to your itinerary or if your tour iscancelled, providing this is not due to force majeure*, you will be notified at least six weeks before the tour is due to commence and offered an alternative itinerary. You will have the option of accepting these alternative arrangements, in which case any difference in price will be refunded to you or cancelling the booking completely whereby you will be given a full refund. A decision to cancel or not accept the alternative arrangements should be received from you in writing no later than 7 days from advice of the new travel arrangements.
* Force majeure is used to describe unusual or unforeseen circumstances such as war, threat of war, riot, civil disorder, terrorist activity, strike, natural or industrial disaster, adverse weather conditions or similar events that are beyond our control.
Amendments to confirmed itineraries
Once your reservations have been confirmed one alteration will be made without additional charges. All subsequent changes will attract a fee of 30NZ$ or 20€ per file.
The transport companies or firms concerned are not to be held responsible for any act, omission or event during the time the passengers are on board their busses, aircraft or vessels.
Seasonal variations, weather or road conditions may necessitate variations to itineraries and accommodation providers. These will be made to the best advantage with appropriate adjustment to costs if necessary.
Accidents, Health, Loss, Damage:
Juergen Abele, t/a as Te Rā Tours assumes no responsibility for injury, damage, accident, loss, delay or irregularities that may be caused to person or property.
New Zealand only:
Everyone, including tourists, is covered by the accident compensation scheme, covering most of the costs.
It is recommended that Travel Insurance be purchased to cover against loss or damage to luggage, accident or sickness and any legitimate, unforeseen need to cancel your tour.
G.S.T. (Goods & Services Tax)
The New Zealand Government imposes a 15% Goods and Services Tax on all goods and services utilised in the country. This tax is included in all prices quoted on this website.
Any airport arrival/departure taxes, charges for excess luggage, personal services, gratuities, laundry, drinks, meals (except those specified as included in your itinerary), pre-travel documentation such as visas, travel insurance, personal accident and medical expenses and incidental expenses including all communication charges incurred on passenger's behalf.
Room & Dietary Requests
Special room and dietary requests will be accepted and passed on to the hotels but cannot be guaranteed.
Illness or Absenteeism
In the event of a withdrawal from a tour after commencement for reasons of illness, please obtain a medical certificate in support of any insurance claim. We regret that no refunds can be made for absences from a tour, including but not limited to missed meals or sightseeing.
Transportation, entrance fees and boat cruise prices as per itinerary, services of a Tour Guide and Tour Driver, meals as specified, accommodation on a share twin room basis (unless otherwise specified). Subject to a minimum number of clients, Juergen Abele, trading as Te Rā Tours reserves the right to operate tours using a smaller vehicle with a Driver/Guide, who has a valid Transport Service Licence.
Clothing and What to Bring
New Zealand – Crete & Cyclades – Eastern Europe – Corsica/Sardinia – Canada - Portugal:
We recommend casual, lightweight clothing with some warmer articles for the evenings and cooler days. A warm jacket is also recommended. Pack shorts, trousers, pullover, several changes of underwear and socks, rubber-soled walking shoes, swimsuit, towel, a hat for sun protection, sleeping clothes, a waterproof jacket and shoes and sandals.
Overland to Iran:
We recommend casual, lightweight clothing with some warmer articles for the evenings and cooler days. A warm jacket is also recommended. Pack shorts, trousers, pullover, several changes of underwear and socks, rubber-soled walking shoes, swimsuit, towel, sleeping clothes, a waterproof jacket and shoes and sandals.
To allow us to visit mosques, churches and monasteries you will also need to bring some formal clothing such as shirts, a jacket for men and a dress for women.
Female participants also need to be aware that their head needs to be covered at all times when in public during our stay in Iran. Unmarried couples can share the same rooms, however we kindly ask to consult with our company if you are a LGBTQ traveller.
We recommend casual, lightweight clothing with some warmer articles for the evenings and cooler days. Please also bring longer trousers and shirts for official events, such as a church visit. Also please bring a pair of shoes and sandals, swimsuit, towel, sunscreen, a hat for sun protection.
We recommend casual, warm clothing. A warm jacket and a waterproof jacket is recommended. Pack pullovers, several changes of long johns and warm underwear and socks, rubber-soled walking shoes and sleeping clothes. Gloves, a scarf and a cap are also required.
Do not forget your hat, camera, film, sunglasses, insect repellent, sunscreen, toilet requisites and a flask for drinking water. Regular laundry facilities are available en route.
Where indicated in an itinerary, complimentary arrival and departure transfers are provided.
Any problems that occur should be directed at the earliest opportunity to your guide or other representatives of us. Complaints must be submitted in writing no later than 30 days after returning from an experience with us.
Third party operators: Scenic Flights, Boat Cruises, Helicopter Flights, Cable Car Rides, some 4WD Tours, White Water Rafting, Hot Air Ballooning, Rail, Farmstay Options, etc.
These excursions are not operated by us. These activities involve inherent risk of injury, death, accident, delay and loss, and clients assume all such risk with regard to any misadventure, death, injury, delay or loss which occurs during, or as a result of any such activity.
This represents the entire agreement between Juergen Abele, t/a as Te RāTours and the customer, who is the tour operator. Juergen Abele, t/a as Te Rā Tours will be responsible to the client for supplying the services and accommodation as described except where such services cannot be supplied.
Change of itinerary:
The itinerary used is changed due to delays or other causes of whatever kind or nature beyond the control of Juergen Abele, t/a as Te Rā Tours. In such circumstances, we will do our best to supply comparable services, accommodations and itineraries, and there shall be no refund in this connection. Occasionally, it may be necessary to alter or amend itineraries, accommodation and sightseeing arrangements from those published. This may be due to road, weather and other operational needs prevailing at the time, and is always made in the best interests of your comfort. Any personal expenses incurred by a client as a result of any delay, alteration or curtailment of any tour, whether caused by mechanical defect, strikes or any other cause are the responsibility of the client (we strongly recommend all clients take out Travel Insurance.
The operator is unable to guarantee exact arrival and departure times, and is not liable for any failure to make connections with any other service, or guarantee the operation of any particular service.
In the case of breakdown and other unforeseen circumstances, the operator reserves the right to substitute vehicles other than specified, to ensure the operation of a tour.
Payment through an agent:
Please note that for payments through an agent there is no liability on our part, in respect of any monies paid to a travel agent. The company reserves the right to cancel any ticket or booking, or to refuse to carry any client where payment has not been received by the company within the specified time. The company reserves the right to amend or cancel tours at any time.
The law of this contract is the law of New Zealand.
The traveller(s) is/are responsible for the acquisition of passports and appropriate visas, where necessary. We recommend that such documents, as required by governments, are finalised at least six weeks prior to the date of departure.
Please note that no refund shall be made for any unused portion of any itinerary. Any alteration to the holiday, made by a traveller(s), shall be at the expense of the traveller(s)
Group Tours only:
Single rooms are available upon request and a supplement is payable at the time of the booking (see each tour pricing). We may be able to match you up with another client in a twin room and save you paying the supplement. Please request at the time of booking.
In triple share rooms, the third bed may be a 'foldaway', sofa bed or 'rollaway'.
One medium size suitcase or soft bag per person, the sum of its length/width and depth not to exceed 140cm (56") plus an overnight bag (airline bag size). Maximum weight of all luggage not to exceed 25 kg (44lbs). We are required by strict Government vehicle weight regulations to enforce and adhere to this limit. If your luggage exceeds this limit, we ask that you make alternative arrangements for the excess to be forwarded to the termination point of your tour. Please note we suggest you have wheels on your suitcase, as there are certain places where assistance is not available (eg. railway stations and cruise terminal).
Children under 18 years of age must be accompanied by an adult. Clients with disabilities are welcome on our tours providing they are accompanied by an able-bodied companion and do not require special assistance from our personnel. We reserve the right to refuse to carry anyone if it is felt the individual cannot cope with the requirements and may require services and facilities that we cannot guarantee. You agree to not hold us responsible for any decision made by a service provider who refuses to carry you, provide any facilities or accommodation to you or toprovide any service to you.
Student Tours only:
We sleep in hostels with shared bedrooms and shared showers and toilets. Normally the bedrooms are shared by 4 – 6 people per room, this can vary at some places.
We cater for 14 – 18 year old ones. In case you are above 18 years of age you will have to stick to our rules disallowing alcohol and drugs on tours.
Please bring a soft bag with no more than 15kg in a bag. There are lots of laundry facilities on the way which can be used.
Code of Practice
Juergen Abele, t/a Te Rā Tours agrees to abide by the Code of Practice for the Pastoral Care of International Students when running tours for international students.
Juergen Abele, t/a Te Rā Tours reserves the right to contact legal guardians and/or agents of any participants - who due to their actions continuously cause problems and disruptions that may endanger health, safety or welfare of themselves or other passengers - to either resolve these issues or to be removed from the tour in a safe and organized fashion.
In such cases no refunds will be paid and expenditures for any such arrangements will be solely at the cost of the passenger.
